CRS Rice Bowl

In 2015, CRS Rice Bowl celebrated its 40th anniversary. They began 40 years ago in response to a famine in Africa. Today over 13,000 Catholic parishes and schools across the country participate in CRS Rice Bowl.

CRS Rice Bowl occurs throughout Lent.

25% Supports Needs in the Diocese of Phoenix

Grants are awarded to organizations that address food insecurity and are used solely for the purchase of food.  The majority of Rice Bowl Grants that were awarded in 2015 were awarded to parish St Vincent de Paul societies.

75% Supports CRS’s Global Initiatives

These funds are used for CRS programs like Food for Education in Honduras.

  • 63% of people in Honduras life in poverty (which means they live on US$2 per day).
  • 39% of that 63% live in extreme poverty (which means they live on US$1 per day).

Food for Education program provides over 7 million school meals a day which removes barriers for children to go to school and also addresses malnutrition.
