Purpose and Scope

This position provides cleaning and light maintenance for the buildings and grounds (landscaping) at the parish, school and other parish properties. This role involves collaborating with fellow employees in promoting the parish’s mission of evangelization aimed at leading all those who enter through the doors of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel to Heaven.

Essential Job Functions

· Assures that church buildings are maintained in a clean and orderly manner. Mops and vacuums floors, cleans bathrooms, washes windows, and maintains wood furniture that requires oiling and maintenance.

· Assures that grounds (landscaping) are maintained in a clean and safe manner by mowing, watering and edging lawns, sweeping/blowing walkways, weeding, pruning and raking. 

· Performs minor maintenance of the rectories, church, school and office buildings when needed.

· Performs light plumbing, electrical, carpentry and other minor repair work on the facilities as needed.

· Provides other general assistance as needed through setting up the chairs and tables as requested, hauling and moving items, and picking up parts or other equipment as requested by staff.

· Maintains an inventory of supplies needed for maintenance and repairs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

· Ability to safely operate gas or electric powered lawn mowers, edgers, trimmers or other equipment used in landscaping and maintenance.

· Ability to safely operate power tools that may be required to make routine, light maintenance repairs.

· Knowledge of general care requirements for landscaping and maintenance.

· Must be able to perform strenuous tasks, and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

· Ability to lift, move and use ladders, lifts, scaffolds and other related equipment.

· Knowledge of hazards and safety methods related to maintenance and custodial operations. 

· Ability to set priorities and organize work effectively.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality.

· Ability to provide own transportation for job-related responsibilities.

· Must possess a valid AZ Driver’s License.

· On-call availability for emergencies.

Work Environment

· This job operates in the Parish, School, and other Parish Property grounds.  

· This role routinely uses common hand and power tools, such as screwdrivers, saws, drills, wrenches, and hammers to fix, replace, or repair equipment and parts of buildings.

Physical Demands

· This is a largely active role; requiring standing, walking, climbing, and reaching This would require the ability to stand for long periods or lift heavy objects as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

· Three years’ work experience in minor repair work in carpentry, painting, electrical & plumbing.

· Successful work experience implementing a comprehensive cleaning plan for a facility, including sweeping, dusting, washing, waxing.

· Successful work experience maintaining grounds (landscaping), parking lots, etc.

· Ability to maintain a safe working environment.

· Must be dependable

· Able to lift at least 50 pounds

· Able to perform physical duties

· Demonstrate a professional and cooperative attitude with staff, volunteers and parishioners

· Have successfully completed and kept up to date the completion of Called to Protect training from the Diocese of Phoenix

· Must have a current Federal Fingerprint Card, an IVP Fingerprint Card, and update when necessary.
