“Liturgical catechesis is not separate from the work of evangelization. Rather, it is an occasion in which, through worship, the world becomes a space oriented toward Eucharistic love. For this to take place, we need a renewal of how we think about liturgical catechesis. It is not just an explanation of the rites of the Church. Rather, liturgical catechesis forms men and women to live a liturgical life through practice, prayerful reflection and contemplation, and self-sacrificial love unto the end. It is the task of parishes, dioceses, publishers, families, and all Catholics to develop this approach as part of the new evangelization.”

Liturgical Catechesis in the Diocese of Phoenix
The Office of Worship is currently not offering any courses on the liturgy because of staff limitations. We are making every effort to improve and expand access to catechetical resources in the Diocese.
- Praenotanda – The Office of Worship publishes a monthly newsletter through FlockNote covering the topics of Liturgy, RCIA, Sacraments, and Music. All clergy receive this newsletter automatically and parish ministry heads, staff members, and catechists are encouraged to subscribe.
- Publications – The Office of Worship regularly publishes catechetical resources for distribution to the faithful in the Diocese. To view our publications, click here.
- Ministry Resources – We are currently working on producing new resources for those involved in liturgical ministry at the parish level.
Virtual Classes on the Liturgy
We recommend the following online liturgical programs and classes:
The Institute of Catholic Theology at St. Thomas the Apostle in Phoenix offers a variety of both adult/catechist interest classes and a degree program in conjunction with Franciscan University of Steubenville. Their “Course Library” includes recorded lectures on beauty, ecclesiology, the GIRM, and the history of liturgy.
The Liturgical Institute at Mundelein Seminary offers both online certificate and continuing education courses as well as a Masters Degree in Liturgy. Continuing education courses cover a wide variety of topics in liturgy and are moderately priced at $97 a course.
