Bishop John P. Dolan Appoints New Leadership Roles at Diocesan Pastoral Center

PHOENIX (Nov. 7, 2022) – Bishop John P. Dolan, who was installed as the new bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix on August 2, announced two new key leadership roles at the Diocesan Pastoral Center. The new appointments include Fr. John R. Muir as moderator of the curia and vicar general and Dr. Maria Chavira to serve as vice-moderator of the curia, in addition to her current role as chancellor. Fr. Muir, who will replace Fr. Fred Adamson in both roles, assumes his new duties on Jan. 1, 2023, while Dr. Chavira’s new title is effective immediately.

Greeters for Arizona Rosary Celebration

Where: Phoenix Convention Center Halls F & G, 33 S. 3rd St., Phoenix (Map It)

Start Date: 10/15-16/2022

Time Commitment: 9 a.m. – noon, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and/or 4:15-5:15 p.m.

Description: Catholic Scouts and Catholic junior high and high school students are needed to greet guests and hand out programs and rosaries to several thousand people attending the annual AZ Rosary Celebration. Greeters are needed from 11 am to 2 pm.

Help is also needed setting up the stage on Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16 from 9 am to noon.

In addition, help is needed after the event from 4:15 to 5:15 and that includes clearing the stage and moving items to trucks and picking up trash in the Hall.

Youth are welcome to stay for the Rosary Celebration including the Blessing Procession, Speaker and praying the Rosary. This is a wonderful, joy-filled event when Catholics from all around the state join in honoring Mary, this year under her title “Help of Persecuted Christians”. Please join us!

Service hour forms will be signed if needed.

Description: FSL is a non-profit organization founded by the Diocese of Phoenix in 1974 that addresses the needs of people needing help living independently. The organization offers over 20 programs to meet the needs of adults aged 18 and above. FSL programs and services embrace and embody the spirit of St. John the Caregiver, whom Jesus Christ entrusted the care of his His Blessed Mother.

In Peoria, FSL manages the Senior Center and the Community Action Program (CAP), both located within one of the city’s community centers. The CAP office houses a Resource Center which is an important place for citizens of the area to access needed services and programs. The timely and courteous greeting of guests by a Receptionist is an essential first step to getting people the resources they need to meet their goals of independence.

The person filling this position will possess excellent interpersonal skills that demonstrate compassion, empathy, gentleness, and patience as they work with fellow neighbors who may be in distress. It requires knowledge of customer service principles, basic clerical functions, computer skills, use of telephone systems, and document processing, as this volunteer will be responsible for providing first-line customer service, composing routine correspondence, filing, faxing, scanning, copying, distributing mail, data entry and other like duties.

This is a position that can be shared between two or more volunteers. The Resource Center operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. More.

Substitute Home Delivered Meals Driver

Description: FSL is a non-profit organization founded by the Diocese of Phoenix in 1974 that addresses the needs of people needing help living independently. The organization offers over 20 programs to meet this mission. FSL programs and services strive to embody the spirit of St. John the Caregiver, whom Jesus Christ entrusted the care of His Blessed Mother.

The FSL Peoria CAP Senior Center is responsible for the area’s Home Delivered Meals (HDM) program for low-income homebound clients. While doing this much-needed service HDM volunteers can also conduct wellness checks and promote an array of home and community-based services provided by FSL and others.

The HDM Driver will help package up the meals for delivery, load the meals into the delivery vehicle, follow a delivery schedule, take meals into the homes of clients, spend a little time checking in with clients, and record the day’s deliveries along with any issues encountered. Deliveries are made Monday through Friday, using FSL program vans, between 9:00 am and the conclusion of deliveries, often times around 2:00 pm.

We are seeking one or two individuals willing to step in on an as-needed basis when regular drivers are out on sick leave or vacation. More.

The work of the Care Companion allows FSL to give the highest quality service and attention to our adult center clients by providing an extra pair of hands. The Senior Care Companion volunteer will engage in conversations, play games, and assist with tasks of a light-duty nature to bring happiness to the lives of those we are privileged to serve.
