HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS APPLY HERE
ADULTS APPLY HERE
Who can apply?
Anyone age 16 or older with two or more years of parish experience as an altar server can apply! Diocesan altar servers should be mature, interested in the liturgy, able to take direction, and able to conduct themselves with dignity and grace. Servers must be able to commit to attending an annual training session (August 9th 2025!) and serving four times a year. Servers must also be able to commit to getting themselves to and from the liturgies they sign up for.
Will everyone who applies be accepted?
The number of altar servers will be capped to allow for those in formation for the priesthood and the diaconate to continue gaining experience serving at the altar.
How can I train to be a server?
Training to be a Diocesan Server will take place on Saturday August 9th from 9am-4pm at SS. Simon and Jude Cathedral. Those unable to attend the training are encouraged to apply next year. [2026 Training will take place on Saturday August 29 2026 from 9am – 4pm].
Where and when will I be able to serve?
Diocesan liturgies happen at about 20 locations each year and are a mix of annual and one-time events. Some years have more opportunities to serve, others less. Servers will receive notice of upcoming liturgies and have the opportunity to serve at those that fit their schedule and commuting ability. Liturgies will typically be in the evenings and on the weekends. Scheduling will be handled using Ministry Scheduler Pro. All servers will be expected to access that app/website regularly. Liturgies most commonly happen at St. Mary’s Basilica, the Cathedral, the Pastoral Center, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Francis Xavier, and All Saints.
How will altar servers vest?
Diocesan altar servers will wear white albs with black dress shoes. Albs will be provided by the Office of Worship. Altar servers will be expected to keep the alb clean, in good repair, and to transport it with them to and from liturgies.
I am a Master of Ceremonies at my parish; can I be a Diocesan MC?
The Office of Worship recruits MCs who have stood out for their knowledge, organization and poise in serving the liturgy. Diocesan Altar Servers may be considered for future MC positions after a period of service and as they become available.
Protection of Minors:
For all those under the age of 18 and/or still in high school, communications will always be with one (or two) parents/guardians. Safe Environment policies will be strictly adhered to.
