Rev. Victor Lamore

Fr. Victor Lamore died Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the age of 75.

Fr. Lamore was born on July 12, 1941 in Canada and was Ordained to the Priesthood on May 3, 1980 for the Diocese of Ogdensburg, New York.

Fr. Lamore served parishes in Plattsburgh, Malone, Indian Lake, Rosiere, West Leyden and Ray Brook, New York.  He moved to El Mirage in 2015 and served at St. Joachim and Anne Parish in Sun City and Freedom Plaza Care Center in Peoria.

Services:  A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Joachim and Anne Parish on Friday, April 7, 2017, at 10am.

Rev. Louis “Louie” Richard Mraz, osc

Died Monday, March 13, 2017 at the age of 89.

Fr. Mraz was born on March 8, 1928, in Streator, Illinois and attended the Crosier school in Wawasee, Indiana, in 1952.  He entered the Crosier novitiate in Hastings, Nebraska, one year later and professed his first vows August 28, 1954 in Hastings.  Fr. Mraz was ordained a priest May 30, 1959 in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

After ordination Fr. Mraz was assigned to the Crosier mission in Agats, Papua, Indonesia, where he served the people for 20 years.  Upon his return to the United States in 1980 he became a member of the Crosier Community of Phoenix.  He served as Parochial Vicar at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Scottsdale from 1980 to 1989 and at St. Helen Parish in Glendale from 1989 to 2008 when he retired.

Services:  Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017, 11am at St. Helen Parish, 5510 W. Cholla Street, Glendale.

Rev. Ernest J. Engler

Died Monday, February 20, 2017 at the age of 89.

Fr. Engler was born July 14, 1927 and was Ordained to the Priesthood on June 2, 1951 for the Archdiocese of Dubuque, Iowa.

In retirement Fr. Engler served at St. Clare of Assisi Parish, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish/Prince of Peace Parishes.

Services:  A Memorial Mass will be held at Resurrection Church in Dubuque with burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Worthington, Iowa.

Rev. Gerald “Jerry” Thaar, osc

Died February 18, 2017 at the age of 79.

Fr. Thaar was born September 7, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan.  He entered the Crosier Order Aug. 27, 1958, making his first profession of vows Aug. 28, 1959. He was ordained a Catholic priest May 22, 1965.

Fr. Thaar served at Blessed Sacrament in Scottsdale 2002 – 2005 and in retirement was the Chaplain at Vi Grayhawk Senior Living Community in Scottsdale.  Fr. Thaar moved to the assisted living facility in Onamia, Minnesota, in 2014.

Services: Memorial Mass will be held on March 25, 2017 at 10am in the Priory Church of the Holy Cross in Phoenix.

Rev. Joseph McGaffin

Died February 12, 2017 at the age of 52.

Fr. McGaffin was born December 8, 1964 in Utica, New York, and Ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Phoenix on June 1, 1996.

Fr. McGaffin served as Parochial Vicar of St. Mary Parish in Chandler, St. Paul Parish in Phoenix, St. Daniel the Prophet Parish in Scottsdale, St. Jerome Parish in Phoenix and St. Clement of Rome Parish in Sun City.  He was named Pastor of Resurrection Parish in 2006 and St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in 2010 where he was Pastor until his death.

Services:  Funeral Mass, Friday, February 17, 2017, 10am, St. Elizabeth Seton Parish, 9728 W. Palmeras Drive, Sun City.

2016

Rev. Charles Kurgan, O. Carm.

Died November 21, 2016 at the age of 77.

Fr. Kurgan was born December 5, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois and Ordained for the Carmelite Order on May 27, 1965.

In 1974 he was appointed youth minister at St. Agnes Parish in Phoenix. During that time he also taught moral theology and liturgy at the Kino Institute, was Vicar for the Office of Worship, campus minister at Mesa and Scottsdale Community Colleges, and local vocation director.  Fr. Kurgan was Prior of the Carmelite’s in Phoenix since 2010.

Services:  Funeral Mass, St. Agnes Parish, Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 7pm.

Rev. Gregory Santos, O.C.S.O.

Died Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at the age of 87.

Fr. Santos was born February 21, 1929 in Honolulu, Hawaii.  In 1950 he entered the monastery of Our Lady of the Holy Trinity in Huntsville, Utah, and was ordained a Trappist monk and priest on May 23, 1959 for the Abbey of the Holy Spirit, of the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance.

In 1967 he moved to Georgia and continued his teaching at the Trappist Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers from 1967 through 1969. While in Georgia, he co-founded and was the director of The Bridge, a walk-in and residential adolescent alcohol and drug treatment center in Atlanta where he worked until its closing in 1975. He arrived to the Diocese of Phoenix in July 1991.  He lived as a retired priest in Flagstaff and assisted at San Francisco de Asis Parish and the northern parishes.

Services:  Monday, November 14, 2016, Holy Rosary,10am, followed by Mass of Christian burial, 11am, at San Francisco de Asis Parish in Flagstaff

Rev. Louis Anthony Sigman

Died Monday, August 29, 2016, at the age of 87.

Fr. Sigman was born on December 19, 1928 in Chicago, IL and was ordained to the priesthood May 21, 1967 for the Diocese of Peoria.  He was incardinated to the Diocese of Phoenix in February 1973.

Fr. Sigman served in the Diocese of Tucson as Parochial Vicar of Mother of Sorrows Parish.  In the Diocese of Phoenix, he served as Parochial Vicar of St. Theresa Parish in Phoenix, Pastor of St. Daniel the Prophet Parish in Scottsdale and Corpus Christi Parish in Phoenix until the time of his retirement in July of 1998.  In retirement Fr. Sigman continued to serve the people of God whenever called upon.

Rev. William Condon

Died Wednesday, July 27, 2016.

Fr. Condon was born on April 20, 1927 in Joliet, IL and was ordained to the priesthood on May 1, 1954 for the Diocese of Joliet.  He was the founding pastor of St. Raphael Church in Naperville, IL in 1963.

In retirement Fr. Condon moved to Mesa to be closer to dear friends and his beloved Cubs’ spring training facility. He served at St. Dominic Mission in Rio Verde and Ascension Church in Fountain Hills.

Rev. Peter Carota

Died Friday, July 8, 2016.

Fr. Carota was born November 15, 1948 and was ordained to the priesthood on May 24, 1997 for the Diocese of Stockton.

Fr. Carota founded St. Francis Catholic Kitchen in Santa Cruz, CA.  It was his goal to not just feed, clothe and shelter the poor, but also to heal their brokenness through bringing them to Jesus and His Church.  During his time in the Diocese of Phoenix he served at St. Catherine of Siena Parish.

Rev. Julio Lopresti, IVE

Died Monday, May 30, 2016 at the age of 47.

Fr. Lopresti was born January 21, 1969 and ordained to the priesthood for the Institute of the Incarnate Word on December 20, 1996 in Argentina.  He served in Brooklyn, New York; Cuba; New Bedford, Massachusetts; Bridgeport, Connecticut before arriving in the diocese.  Fr. Lopresti served at Immaculate Heart of Mary and St. Anthony Parishes as Pastor from July 2012 until a few weeks ago when he moved to the east coast.

Rev. Brian Fenlon

Died Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at the age of 76.

Fr. Fenlon was born August 15, 1940 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Phoenix on May 31, 1975.  Fr. Fenlon served at Ss. Simon & Jude Cathedral, St. Joseph Parish in Phoenix, Christ the King Parish in Mesa, and was the founding pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Scottsdale.  Fr. Fenlon served the sick and dying as a hospice chaplain and at several of our parishes in his retirement years.

Rev. Michael Nestor

Died Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at the age of 88.

Msgr. Nestor was born December 15, 1928 in McKeesport, PA. He was ordained to the priesthood on April 10, 1965 for the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia. He served as a retired priest in Phoenix with bi-ritual faculties since 1996. Our parishes in the East Valley were blessed by his many years of dedicated service.

Rev. Edmund Groves

Died, Saturday, March 26, 2016 at the age of 91.

Fr. Groves was born February 23, 1925 and ordained in Ireland for the Diocese of Tucson on June 16, 1949. He served at St. Catherine’s in Phoenix, St. Francis in Yuma, St. Matthew’s and Most Holy Trinity in Phoenix, and St. Mary’s in Chandler as Parochial Vicar before returning to Ireland.

Rev. Francisco D. Guianan, Jr., SOLT

Died Sunday, March 6, 2016, at the age of 59.

Fr. Guianan was born September 10, 1956 in the Philippines, and took his final vows on November 17, 1988 to the Society of Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity (SOLT). Fr. Guianan served in the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Kansas City, MO and most recently at Most Holy Trinity Parish in Phoenix as Parochial Vicar.

Rev. Thomas C. Weible

Died Saturday, March 5, 2016, at the age of 88.

Fr. Weible was born February 6, 1928 in Los Angeles, California, and ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles on April 30, 1959. After retiring to Arizona Fr. Weible continued to offer priestly ministry in various parishes in the diocese.

Rev. Thomas “Tot” O’Dea

Died January 2, 2016, in Ireland at the age of 82.

Fr. O’Dea was born December 16, 1933, and ordained to the priesthood in Ireland for the Diocese of Tucson on June 7, 1958.  He served at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Phoenix, Queen of Peace Parish in Mesa, St. Anthony of Padua Parish Casa Grande, St. Francis Parish in Superior, St. Patrick Parish in Bisbee, St. John Vianney Parish in Goodyear, St. Matthew Parish in Phoenix, Christ the King Parish in Mesa, Holy Spirit Parish in Tempe, and he retired after serving as pastor of Ascension Parish in Fountain Hills in 2003.

The funeral Mass was held at Church of Christ the King, Ballycorick, Co Clare, Ireland on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 with burial on the church grounds.

2015

Rev. Richard McGuire, OSC

Died Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at the age of 70.

Fr. McGuire’s profession of vows was August 28, 1966 in Hastings, Nebraska and his date of priesthood ordination was May 12, 1973 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He arrived in the Diocese of Phoenix in 2004 and served as Parochial Vicar at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Chandler from 2005 until his death.

Services were held at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish on Monday, October 5, 2015. Fr. McGuire is buried in Minnesota.

Rev. Kenneth Kleiber

Died Monday, September 28, 2015 at the age of 73.

Fr. Kleiber was born November 6, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois, and was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Chicago on May 2, 1968. He arrived in Phoenix in 1977 and served as Parochial Vicar at St. Thomas the Apostle, St. Maria Goretti, and St. Catherine of Siena parishes. He also served as Chaplain at the Veterans Hospital for 22 years.

A memorial Mass was offered at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glendale on Thursday, October 8, 2015. Fr. Kleiber is buried in Chicago.

In lieu of flowers Fr. Kleiber has requested memorial contributions be made in his name to Guesthouse Inc, 1601 Joslyn Rd, Lake Orion, MI, 48360.

Rev. Charles B. Casale

Died Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at the age of 76.

Fr. Casale was born December 9, 1939 in Newark NJ, and was ordained to the priesthood for the Grey Franciscan Friars of Charity, on June 7, 1969. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Joseph Jay and Grace V. Casale.

After many years of active ministry with the Grey Friars and then the Diocese of Fresno, Father Casale retired to Arizona in 2010. He continued to serve in various parishes in this diocese.

In lieu of flowers Fr. Casale has requested memorial contributions be made in his name to the Carthusian Foundation of Vermont.

Fr. Casale is buried at Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery in Mesa Arizona.

Rev. Herbert Hauck

Rev. Herbert Hauck

Died Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at the age of 76.

Fr. Hauck was born April 16, 1939 and was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of St. Louis, in Rome, on December 16, 1964.

After serving for many years in the Archdiocese of St. Louis Fr. Herb relocated to the Diocese of Phoenix in 2005 to be closer to family and to serve the people of God in this diocese. He served briefly as Interim Parochial Administrator of St. Gabriel Parish in Cave Creek in 2005. He served as Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Joy Parish in Carefree from 2005 until his retirement in 2011. He continued to be of service to the parish in his retirement years.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Joy Parish in Carefree. Fr. Hauck is buried at Holy Redeemer Cemetery.

Rev. Herbert Hauck

Rev. Frank Simlik

Died Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at the age of 88.

Fr. Simlik was born on April 13, 1926 and was ordained to the priesthood for the Order of Preachers in Rome on February 14, 1954. In June of 1982 he was incardinated into the Diocese of Phoenix. Fr. Simlik served at St. Thomas the Apostle, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and at St. Joan of Arc. He served as pastor of St. Joachim and St. Anne Parish until the time of his retirement in 2002. In his retirement years Fr. Simlik continued to serve the people of God in Sun City and wherever called upon for help.

Funeral services were held at St. Joachim and St. Anne Parish in Sun City, AZ. Fr. Simlik is buried at St. Francis Cemetery.

Rev. Daryl Olds, C.M.F.

Died Friday, April 3, 2015 at the age of 62.

Fr. Olds was born October 8, 1952 in Gillette, Wyoming. He was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in 1972. Relating his conversion story and ministry experience he stated, “In 1985 I had a very powerful experience of the real presence of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament while attending Mass with a friend. This experience changed my life and led me to enter the Catholic Church.” Shortly after this experience Fr. Olds joined the Claretian Missionaries and was ordained a priest in 1992. He arrived at Sacred Heart Parish in Prescott, July of 2002, where he served as Parochial Vicar and later as Pastor.

Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Parish in Prescott, AZ.

Fr. Harry “Dutch” Olivier, S.J.

Died March 17, 2015 at the age of 88.

Fr. Olivier was born September 5, 1926 and entered the Jesuits in 1944. He was ordained to the priesthood June 15, 1957 for the Jesuits California Province of the Society of Jesus. He arrived in Phoenix in July of 1987 as the Rector of Brophy Prep High School.

Services were held at St. Francis Xavier Church. Fr. Olivier is buried in the Jesuit Cemetery in Santa Clara, California.

Rev. Thomas Boyle

Died March 12, 2015 at the age of 84.

Fr. Boyle, retired pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Wickenburg, died this morning in Cottonwood, AZ at the rectory of Immaculate Conception Parish. Fr. David Kelash, who had been his caregiver and friend for over twenty years, was by his side as he passed.

Fr. Boyle was ordained to the priesthood on June 2, 1956 for the Diocese of Tucson. He served in the cities of Tucson, Morenci, and Phoenix in the 1960’s, in Baltimore Maryland and St. Mary’s Chandler, in the 1970’s. He was pastor of St. Anthony in Wickenburg from 1976 – 1990. He especially loved serving the parish of St. Anthony in Wickenburg and continued to hold a fondness for the parish throughout his retirement years.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Regina Cleri Fund held by the Diocese of Phoenix. Services were held at Immaculate Conception Parish.

Fr. Alonso De Blas, O.F.M.

Died March 6, 2015 at the age of 75.

Fr. De Blas was born October 25, 1939 and was 55 years professed and 50 years ordained as a Franciscan Friar. He served as a teacher at St. Mary’s High School for many years and became a retreat master at the Franciscan Renewal Center in June of 1991.

Services were held at St. Mary’s Basilica.

Rev. Kevin Cassidy

Died February 24, 2015 at the age of 80.

Fr. Cassidy was born May 27, 1934 in Ireland and was ordained to the priesthood on May 28, 1960 for the Diocese of Madison, Wisconsin. He served in cities throughout the diocese from 1960 to 2002. He also served as the State Chaplain for Law Enforcement and as the National Chaplain for the Elks Fraternal Organization in Wisconsin. Fr. Cassidy retired, as a snowbird, to Sun City, in 2008.

Services were held March 6, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Sun City. Fr. Cassidy is buried at St. Francis Cemetery.

2014

Rev. Earl D’Eon

Died December 2, 2014 at the age of 80.

He was born July 26, 1934 in Lynn, Massachusetts. Fr. D’Eon was ordained to the priesthood on June 3, 1989 for the Diocese of Phoenix. He served in the United States Air Force from 1955-1959 after which he lived in California and Williams Arizona where he was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Parish and a business owner prior to entering the seminary. Fr. D’Eon served at Holy Spirit Parish in Tempe, Our Lady of the Desert Mission in Dolan Springs and St. Clements of Rome Parish up to his retirement in 2004.

Visitation and Funeral Mass were held at St. Clement of Rome Church. Fr. D’Eon is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Rev. Thomas Walsh

Died November 21, 2014 at the age of 98.

Fr. Walsh was ordained to the priesthood on June 13, 1942 for the Archdiocese of San Francisco. He was incardinated to the Diocese of Tucson in 1962 and served at St. Cyril in Tucson and Sacred Heart parish in Nogales; St. Thomas the Apostle, Phoenix and St. Maria Goretti parish in Scottsdale. He was a counselor at Catholic Social Services and the Franciscan Renewal Center. He also served the Newman Center at ASU as the Director from 1963 to 1969. In retirement Fr. Walsh continued to serve God’s people especially at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Scottsdale where he resided.

He will be missed by many for his dedication and sense of humor, especially his self wit. In 2005 Fr. Wash was quoted in the Arizona Republic as saying “I read the Bible every day, but tell people I don’t need to because I’m so old I was there for most of it.” Fr. Walsh was a priest who wanted to be available for his people. He served the people with a sense of humor and love.

Services were held November 24, 2014, at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Scottsdale. Fr. Walsh is buried at Holy Redeemer Cemetery.

Monsignor John J. McMahon

Died November 6, 2014 at the age of 93.

He was born on September 3, 1921. Fr. McMahon was ordained to the priesthood in Ireland on June 13, 1948 for the Diocese of Tucson. Upon his arrival to the Diocese of Phoenix he was appointed as pastor of St. Mary’s Parish, Chandler, with responsibilities at Seton High School. In 1968, Fr. McMahon was assigned to St. Theresa Parish where he served as pastor for 23 years. He was assigned as coordinator of the Papal visit during which the Holy Father honored him with the title of Monsignor. Msgr. McMahon served as Director of Mt. Claret Center and the Cursillo Movement, Chaplain of the Order of Malta and Knights of Columbus, as well as spiritual director to St. Vincent de Paul Society and Christ Child Society of Phoenix. He was also on the board of the Huger-Mercy Foundation. He was also the Vicar for Diocesan Buildings and Properties for over 25 years. He was most recently instrumental in the building of the beautiful new St. Francis of Assisi Church in Ak-Chin for our Native American people.

Services were held at St. Theresa Parish. Msgr. McMahon is buried in Ireland.

Rev. William Waldron

Died November 5, 2014 at the age of 88.

Fr. Waldron was born January 16, 1926 in Claremorris, Co. Mayo, Ireland and was ordained to the priesthood on June 18, 1950 in All Hollows College, Dublin Ireland, for the Diocese of Tucson. He was incardinated in the Diocese of Phoenix in September of 1970. He served in many parishes in the Dioceses of Tucson and Phoenix including St. James Parish in Coolidge, St. Anthony Parish in Casa Grande, St. Mary’s in Chandler, Christ the King in Mesa, St. Matthew’s in Phoenix, St. Louis the King in Glendale, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Scottsdale, St. Joachim & St. Anne-St. Clement of Rome-St. Elizabeth Seton Parishes in Sun City. He retired from St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Sun City, July, 2000. He continued to attend priest events throughout his retirement years and faithfully served the people of God by offering the Sacraments and visiting the sick even up to the week of his death. May his faithful ministry continue to produce fruit in the lives of those he served.

Services were held at St. Joachim & St. Anne Parish. Fr. Waldron is buried at St. Francis Cemetery in Phoenix.

Msgr. Antonio Rebanal

Died Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the age of 75.

He was born February 5, 1939 in the Philippines and was ordained to the priesthood on March 30, 1963 for the Diocese of Legazpi. Msgr. Rebanal was retired and had served as a guest priest during the summers at St. Mary Parish in Chandler since 2003. Msgr. Rebanal was the seminary formator at Holy Rosary Major Seminary in Naga City, Philippines. He served as Rector and Spiritual Director.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary’s Parish on Friday, July 11, 2014. Burial is in his home country of the Philippines.

Rev. Kenneth Walker, F.S.S.P.

Died Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the age of 28.

He was born September 13, 1985 in Poughkeepsie NY and was ordained May 19, 2012 for the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter. He was Parochial Vicar at Mater Misericordiae Mission.

The Requiem Mass was held at St. Catherine of Siena Parish. Fr. Walker is buried in Kansas.

Rev. Loren Gonzales

Died June 3, 2014 at the age of 62.

He was born April 4, 1952 in Orange California and was ordained to the priesthood on April 15, 1989 for the Western Province of the Order of Servants of Mary (Servites). Fr. Gonzales was celebrating his 25th anniversary as a priest this year. He was assigned to the Diocese of Phoenix in July 1997 and was incardinated to the Diocese June 8, 2005. Fr. Gonzales has served as Chaplain at Seton High School, as Parochial Vicar at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, and as Parochial Administrator of St. William Parish. He was the Pastor of St. Charles Borromeo Parish from June 2005 until his death.

Services were held at St. Charles Borromeo Parish on Saturday, June 7, 2014. Fr. Gonzales was buried in California.

Rev. Gilbert John Endres

Died Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the age of 86.

He was born October 16, 1927 in Hampton MN and was ordained to the priesthood on June 7, 1952 for the Archdiocese of St. Paul & Minneapolis. Fr. Endres served parishes throughout his diocese and retired in 1996. After retirement he came to Arizona to be a “winter visitor” and eventually stayed and served at All Saints Parish in Mesa.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Hampton MN, where Fr. Endres celebrated his first Mass after Ordination. Fr. Endres is buried in the St. Mathias Cemetery.

Rev. Neil J. Draves-Arpaia

Died April 14, 2014 at age 65.

He was born April 4, 1949 in Saratoga Springs and was ordained to the priesthood on May 19, 1979. Fr. Draves-Arpaia served as Parochial Vicar at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Scottsdale and St. Joseph Parish. He also served as Chaplain at Xavier College Preparatory and St. Joseph’s Hospital. In recent years he has been a Mercy Associate of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas in the Diocese of Albany New York.

Services were held Tuesday, April 22, 2014, in The Church of St. Peter, Saratoga Springs, New York. Burial was in the family plot at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Fr. John J. Hanley

Died March 20, 2014 at the age of 88.

He was born December 9, 1925 in San Francisco, California and was ordained to the priesthood on June 15, 1956. Fr. Hanley served at Brophy and Gerard High Schools, was a Parochial Vicar at St. Theresa Parish and retired as Pastor at Holy Spirit Parish in Tempe in 2006. Fr. Hanley was Chaplain of Serra Club in 1985 and 1986.

Services were held Thursday, March 27, 2014, at Brophy Chapel. Fr. Hanley is buried at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Phoenix.

Fr. Lloyd P. Kramlich, SDS

Died January 15, 2014 at the age of 81.

He was born February 15, 1932 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was ordained to the priesthood for the Society of the Divine Savior (a.k.a. Salvatorians) on June 7, 1958. Fr. Kramlich moved to Arizona in 1988, bringing his 29 years of teaching experience to Bourgade High School. Fr. Kramlich served at Queen of Peace Parish in Mesa from 1989 until his retirement in 2006. In retirement he continued to provide sacramental ministry to St. Joseph, St. Jerome and St. Louis the King parishes.

Services were held January 24th at St. Louis the King Parish. Fr. Kramlich was buried in the Salvatorian Cemetery on Loretto Hill in St. Nazianz, Wisconsin.

2013

Fr. William W. Harnischfeger

Died November 14, 2013 at the age of 90.

He was born October 8, 1923 in Bad Soden Germany and was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Phoenix on October 8, 1993. Fr. Harnischfeger was a World War II Naval Officer, went to medical school in 1950, married Irene in 1955, was Assistant Professor of Cardiology at Northwestern University in 1974, was in Practice of Internal Medicine and Cardiology in Sun City, Arizona from 1976-1989. Fr. Harnischfeger served at St. Elizabeth Seton Parish from 1993 until his retirement in 2004.

Services were held November 22nd at St. Elizabeth Seton Parish. Fr. Harnischfeger was buried next to his late wife Irene at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City.

Fr. Clemens Hut

Died July 1, 2013 at the age of 102.

He was born April 9, 1911.
He was ordained to the priesthood June 2, 1936 for the Diocese of Evansville Indiana. Fr. Hut came to Arizona in 1959 and served in the Diocese of Tucson and the Diocese of Phoenix. He officially retired in 1976 but kept busy ministering to those in need most recently at Friendship Village.

Funeral services were held at Queen of Peace Parish, Saturday, July 6, 2013.

Fr. Thomas Kawai

Died on Sunday, June 23, 2013.

He was born November 26, 1960.
He was ordained to the priesthood June 22, 1991 for the Archdiocese of Kaduna. Fr. Thomas arrived in the United States in 2008 and last served as Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Lake Havasu City where his funeral Mass was held Thursday, June 27, 2013.

He will be buried in his home country of Nigeria.

Fr. Robert Mann

Died on Tuesday, March 19, 2013.

He was born June 5, 1933.
He was ordained to the priesthood June 6, 1959 for the Diocese of Davenport, Iowa. Fr. Mann served in parishes throughout Iowa, Colorado and Illinois before retiring to Sun City in 2004. In his retirement he served at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish.

Funeral services were held at St. Elizabeth Seton, Tuesday, March 28, 2013, at 10AM.

Rev. Stephen Adrian

Died on Sunday, March 17, 2013.

He was born April 14, 1912.

He was ordained to the priesthood in 1939 and served in parishes in Minnesota and Wisconsin as well as the United States Navy during WWII as a Chaplain. He served the last 28 years of his life at St. Anne Parish in Gilbert. He was a kind man who was loved by all his parishioners and especially the children.

The Funeral Mass was held Saturday, March 23, 2013, at St. Anne Parish, in Gilbert, AZ.

2012

Rev. Joseph Gillespie

Died on Monday, November 26, 2012.

He was born on December 21, 1924.
He was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Tucson on June 19, 1950.
Fr. Gillespie served as Associate Pastor at Most Holy Trinity, as Pastor at OLPH, Glendale, St. Gregory and St. Elizabeth Seton parishes. He retired in 2000.

Funeral services for Fr. Gillespie were held Friday, November 30, 2012, 11am at St. Gregory Parish.

Rev. Maynard C. Kegler, O.M.I.

Died on Saturday, November 3, 2012.

He was born on November 26, 1924.
He was ordained to the priesthood for the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate on January 28, 1951.
Fr. Kegler, a retired priest from Minnesota, moved to Arizona in 1993 and assisted at St. Clement of Rome Parish in Sun City.

Funeral services for Fr. Kegler were held on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at St. Clement of Rome Parish and he will be entombed in the St. Francis Cemetery in Buffalo, MN.

Rev. Timothy Davern, JCL

Died on Thursday, August 30, 2012.

Fr. Davern was born on February 20, 1952 and was ordained for the Diocese of Phoenix on May 13, 1978.
Fr. Davern served as Parochial Vicar at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish, Resurrection Parish, St. Anne Parish and Holy Spirit Parish and as Pastor at our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish. He also served as Adjunct Judicial Vicar, Chancellor and Judicial Vicar for the Diocese. Fr. Davern had a BA from the University of Notre Dame, a M.Div from St. Meinrad School of Theology and a Licentiate in canon law from Catholic University.

The funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Resurrection Parish in Tempe.

Rev. Albert Mackert

Died on Thursday, May 31, 2012.

Fr. Mackert was born on July 23, 1925
He was ordained to the Priesthood on May 20, 1961 for the Diocese of Cleveland.
Fr. Mackert retired and moved to the Diocese of Phoenix in 1996.
A Vigil Service was held on Sunday, June 3, at Prince of Peace Parish.

The Funeral Mass for Fr. Mackert was held on Monday, June 4, at 10:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Parish in Sun City West.

Rev. Thomas McEnnis

Died on Saturday, April 21, 2012.

Fr. McEnnis was born in Castlegrove, Ireland on December 27, 1919.
He was ordained to the Priesthood in Dublin on June 17, 1945.
He incardinated into the Archdiocese of Seattle in 1955.

Fr. McEnnis served in parishes until his retirement in 1985 and first came to the Diocese of Phoenix in 1997 and eventually made Sun City his home.

Rev. Johnrose Hayden

Died on January 29, 2012.

Fr. Hayden was born on January 30, 1930 and was ordained on December 9, 1995 at the age of 65 for the Diocese of Lubbock, TX. He retired to the Diocese of Phoenix in 2003.

Fr. Hayden served at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish and other parishes when there was a need. Fr. Hayden was preceded in death by his wife, Rose, whose name he incorporated into his own after her death. The Funeral Mass was held on February 2 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Tempe.

2011

Rev. Patrick O’Neil

Died on August 22, 2011, in Ireland.

Fr. O’Neil was born on January 9, 1929 in County Clare Ireland.
He was ordained to the Priesthood in Dublin in 1953 for the Archdiocese of Seattle, Washington where he served until his retirement in 1999.

He came to the Diocese of Phoenix in 2000 and served in many parishes in the west valley.

Rev. Francis “Bud” Scheets, OSC

Died on August 12, 2011.

Fr. Scheets, OSC was born on April 9, 1926 in Auroro, IL.
He entered the Crosier Community in 1946 and was ordained to the Priesthood on June 1,1951.
Fr. Scheets was a teacher for many years as well as a consultant for the Center for Applied Research in The Apostolate in Washington, DC.
He was a member of the Crosier Community of Phoenix, and faithfully served the people of God here since 2004.

The Funeral Mass for Fr. Scheets was held on August 16 at Sacred Heart Parish in Phoenix.

Rev. Francis Peacock

Died on July 15, 2011.

He was born on November 7, 1924 in Santa Barbara, California.
Fr. Peacock entered the Franciscan novitiate in 1943.
He was ordained for the Diocese of Tucson in 1953.
For many years Fr. Peacock served in various parishes in the Diocese of Phoenix.
In 1969 Fr. Peacock was appointed to serve at Our Lady of Fatima Parish and did so faithfully for 42 years until he was called home to the Lord.

The Funeral Mass was held on July 19 at Our Lady of Fatima Church.

Msgr. James Carroll

Died on May 10, 2011.

He was born on April 18, 1920.
He was ordained to the Priesthood on October 27, 1945 for the Diocese of Columbus, Ohio.
Msgr. Carroll moved to the Diocese of Phoenix in 1997 after his retirement and made Sun City West his home.

Funeral Services for Msgr. Carroll were held on Thursday, May 19, at St. Pius X Parish in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
