Musician (Parish)
FulltimeKey Responsibilities:
Musical Direction - Lead and direct all music programs, including choirs, ensembles, and instrumentalists for liturgical celebrations such as weekend Masses, school Masses, weddings, funerals, and other special events.
Selection of Music - Collaborate with the pastor and relevant team members in selecting appropriate music for each liturgical season and occasion, ensuring that it aligns with the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church.
Rehearsals - Conduct rehearsals for choirs and ensembles to ensure the highest level of musical performance during liturgical celebrations. Provide guidance and instruction to musicians to enhance their skills and foster a sense of community.
Recruitment and Training - Recruit, train, and develop volunteer musicians and singers within the parish and school community. Encourage participation and create opportunities for individuals to grow in their musical talents and faith life.
Collaboration - Work collaboratively with the pastor, clergy, and other parish/school staff to integrate music seamlessly into the overall worship experience. A working knowledge of the sound system is important. Coordinate/communicate with liturgical volunteers and other ministries to ensure well-organized and prayerful liturgical celebrations.
Administrative Tasks - Procure music resources and materials, create/print worship aids, maintain music library and budget, communicate with liturgical team necessary information, and handle other administrative duties related to the music ministry and liturgy.
Continued Learning - Stay informed about developments in liturgical music, attend workshops, conferences, and other educational opportunities to enhance musical knowledge and skills.
Outreach - Engage with the broader community and explore opportunities for outreach through music, including participation in community events and collaborations with local organizations.
Job Requirements:Qualifications:
- A deep commitment to the Catholic faith and understanding of Catholic liturgy.
- Proficiency in playing the organ and/or piano, as well as conducting choirs and ensembles.
- Strong singing voice and musical skills with knowledge of a diverse range of sacred music styles, including traditional hymns, contemporary worship songs, and chant.
- Experience in leading and directing music in a liturgical setting, preferably within a Catholic parish.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups of people.
- Strong organizational and leadership abilities, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Bachelor’s degree in music, liturgy, theology, or a related field is preferred.
