Family Service Counselor

As a Family Service Counselor, you are the face of Catholic Cemeteries and Funeral Homes to the community. The following is the job description for Family Service Counselors, which is provided by
Human Resources and on file with the Diocese.

A Family Service Counselor is primarily responsible for serving the immediate (at-need) and pre-need arrangements of families that come to the office or call to arrange for services. The Family Service Counselor is required to make follow-up calls to provide assistance to families and generate referrals. This individual must possess a servant’s heart and truly want to help do what is right for the family.

Specific Job Duties
 Assist families in making at-need arrangements including selecting the property, outer burial container, marker and other burial products.
 Contact post-need families to deliver additional cemetery information and offer pre-need services to them.
 Handle calls from at-need and pre-need families, as well as those requesting general information.
 Respond to complaints in a thoughtful and attentive manner.
 Refer families needing bereavement services to our Bereavement Ministry.
 Work graveside (committal) services for families you have served.
 In at-need situations, communicate effectively with the funeral home to ensure the specifics of the funeral are coordinated with the burial.
 Educating families on the importance of pre-need services for funeral and cemetery.
