  • The intern will receive $19 an hour.
  • This salary is meant to cover 14 hours a week for 24 weeks during the 2024/2025 school year. The Intern will work 12 weeks in the Fall of 2024 and 12 weeks in the Spring of 2025.
  • These hours and dates are flexible and can be discussed between applicants and CCHD Diocesan Director.
Purpose and Scope In order to support the Diocese of Phoenix, this intern position assists the Catholic Social Teaching office in its efforts regarding the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD). This includes researching and collecting data/information on parish programs associated with Catholic Social Teaching and the CCHD mission of "addressing the root causes of poverty in America..." (CCHD website). The intern will also develop relationships with parish leaders, volunteers, and community members to foster education in the area of Catholic Social Teaching.   • Gathers relevant information from Catholic parishes and charitable organizations to better serve leaders, programs, volunteers, and activities in a way that promotes the lived experience of Catholic Social Teaching.
  • Researches and records information regarding parish programs for Catholic Social Teaching.
  • Develops relationships with parish leaders, programs, volunteers, Catholic schools, and parish community members in order to foster education in this area and carry out the mission of CCHD on a local level.
  • Internship position might require visits to parishes or Catholic charitable organization in person for related events or research.
  • Assists Coordinator of Catholic Social Teaching in a variety of tasks including: Second Collections, Mission Cooperatives, program planning/ preparation, and more.
Job Requirements:

  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required


  • Availability to be present in the Diocesan Pastoral Center at least one day a week.
  • Working knowledge of Catholic moral and social teaching. 
  • Good team player and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • High level of professionalism. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Creativity, initiative, and follow-through.
  • Knowledge and experience with marketing and communication
  • Patience and tenacity with data-gathering through telephone appointments.
  • Self-directed, well-organized.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, Publisher, and Outlook
  • Willingness to travel within the Diocese as needed.
  • Availability to attend monthly check-in conference calls with CCHD. 
  • Ability to attend National Intern Orientation May 29-31, 2024 (transportation and lodging provided)


Minimum Qualifications


  • Currently pursuing a higher education degree or in seminarian/ religious formation.
  • Catholic engaged in their faith.
  • Love of the Catholic faith and a heart for service.


Work Environment


  • This job operates in a professional office environment. 
  • This role routinely uses s
    tandard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • This position reports to the CCHD Diocesan Director/ Coordinator of Catholic Social Teaching, Abigail Standish.


Physical Demands


  • This is largely a sedentary role; however, some local travel is required, as necessary.
