St. John Vianney Catholic Parish is seeking a passionate and dynamic Youth Minister to serve our diverse parish community with a strong focus on faith-formation, evangelization, liturgy, and discipleship. He or she is a committed disciple of Jesus Christ and active participant in the parish. This Youth Minister will be focused on fostering spiritual growth, providing guidance and mentorship, and cultivating meaningful relationships with teenagers and young adults as well as their families. The Youth Minister will exhibit robust knowledge of the Catholic faith and coherence of faith, profession, and behavior in his or her life. This will allow the Youth Minister to be a credible role model and teacher for the youth to live out their baptismal callings in the world today.


Responsibilities:


1. Evangelization and Catechesis:

  • Develop and implement creative and engaging evangelization strategies to attract and inspire youth to deepen their relationship with Christ and the Church.
  • Design and lead catechetical programs that align with Catholic teachings and address the spiritual needs of middle school and high school students.
  • Coordinate regular faith formation activities, retreats, and conferences to help young people encounter Christ and grow in their faith journey.


2. Liturgical Ministry:

  • Collaborate with the parish liturgical team to involve youth actively in liturgical celebrations, including Mass, sacraments, and special liturgical events.
  • Foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the liturgy among young people, encouraging their active participation in worship and reverence.


3. Relational Ministry:


  • Build authentic relationships with middle school and high school teenagers, based on trust and respect.
  • Initiate and maintain regular communication with youth and their families, providing pastoral care and support.
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment where youth feel comfortable sharing their joys and struggles.


4. Spanish-Speaking Community Engagement:


  • Address the spiritual needs of Spanish-speaking families by conducting outreach, organizing liturgical events, and providing resources in Spanish.
  • Facilitate effective communication and understanding between the youth and their Spanish-speaking parents or guardians.


5. Youth Leadership Development:


  • Identify, recruit and empower young leaders to take on roles of service and ministry within the parish community.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance for youth leadership teams, fostering their spiritual and personal growth.


6. Collaborative Teamwork:

  • Work collaboratively with other parish staff, volunteers, and committees to integrate youth ministry into the overall parish vision and activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and training opportunities to enhance ministry effectiveness.


Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Practicing Catholic with personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a strong commitment to the Magisterium of the Church.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English with the ability to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking families.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar position or applicable education. Bachelor's degree in Theology or Kino Institute Parish Leadership preferred.
  • Prior experience in Catholic youth ministry, religious education, or pastoral ministry, especially in working with middle school and high school teenagers.
  • Must be open to and actively seek out professional development.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to youth from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Understanding of adolescent development and the challenges facing today's youth.
  • Familiarity with contemporary youth culture and social media platforms.
  • Must pass all required background checks and adhere to the Safe Environment Policies of the Diocese of Phoenix.
