The Coordinator is responsible for evangelization and catechetical programs for children in grades pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade. The coordinator will develop programming to evangelize to families with young children, collaborating with the Manager of Faith Formation and Enrichment and the Youth Minister to ensure that all families with young children are properly formed to live out the Gospels.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and oversee the parish catechetical program for families with children in Pre-K through 5th grade, both in the English and Spanish programs, and sacramental preparation
  • Plan and develop curriculum to expand current sacrament preparation program to full catechetical program including ages pre-K through 5th grade
  • Develop and organize retreats in preparation for reception of the sacraments of initiation, as well as retreats for ongoing catechesis
  • Provide formation for parents of children in sacrament prep and family catechesis
  • Work closely with the Pastoral Team ensure that the parish is offering a comprehensive lifelong faith formation program, taking care to incorporate Jesuit/Ignatian spirituality into all offerings. Work collaboratively with appropriate staff and volunteers to bridge pastoral programs, youth formation, and sacramental preparation
  • Collaborate with Coordinator of Liturgy for all sacramental reception liturgies 
  • Collaborate with relevant staff, including Vicar of Hispanic ministries and the Youth Minister to ensure that programs are available to serve all members of our community with young children (pre-K through 5th grade)
  • Collaborate with Manager of Ignatian formation and enrichment to ensure all programming is infused with Ignatian Spirituality Collaborate with the Youth Minister to develop an evangelistic formation program focused on Mass participation for grades 4-5, and provide a transition into the Edge Jr. High Program
  • Recruit, select, provide initial training, supervise, and evaluate catechists 
  • Encourage the spiritual and professional development of catechists by providing retreats, workshops, and meetings, collaborating with Manager of Ignatian Formation to ensure all catechists are trained in Ignatian Spirituality
  • Meet and assist coordinators and catechists as needed to plan for formation meetings
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships and communication with Diocesan personnel
  • Prepare and monitor the Faith Formation ministry budget in collaboration with Director of Pastoral Ministries
  • Prepare the yearly program calendar; make space reservations as needed
  • Supervise the maintenance of records: permanent records, sacramental records, catechist records, and parish database
  • Follow all Diocesan mandated Safe Environment Protocols, and ensure all volunteers are in compliance with Diocesan regulations
  • Participate in diocesan catechetical meetings as appropriate and required
  • Maintain appropriate internal and external communications with staff and volunteer catechists
  • Attend staff meetings and Pastoral Department meetings
  • Communicate with parents regularly and promote active involvement in parish life
  • Other duties as required by Director of Pastoral Ministries and Pastor

  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Practicing Roman Catholic in good standing
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education strongly preferred, background in theology, pastoral ministry, or social required
  • Five years' experience working within the church structure in a parish, diocesan, or other related entity; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the above-described essential functions.  
  • Knowledge and understanding of church organization and operational procedures.  
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with Ignatian Spirituality
  • Possess computer, internet, and electronic media savvy.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with PC software, MS Office, and all basic office equipment, including experience with spreadsheet, word processing, and database software. 
  • Fluency in both English & Spanish required – both written and spoken.
