Position Information:

  • The Philanthropic Advisor plays a pivotal role in advancing the mission and vision of the Catholic Community Foundation by translating the core values and gifts of the Foundation into actionable plans. This position’s primary focus is on communicating and educating individuals and organizations about the values and gifts of the Foundation while executing key initiatives and establishing solid, long-lasting relationships. The Advisor particularly emphasizes the importance of endowments and the benefits of leaving a planned gift to our community. The Advisor will work closely with existing donors, nonprofits, and professional advisors to facilitate lifetime and planned charitable gifts.
Job Requirements:
  • Manage approximately 60 major gift/planned giving donors/prospects, while engaging each to move forward in their stewardship journey.
  • Help develop donor identification, cultivation, invitation, and stewardship strategies resulting in single and multi-year current and future estate gifts.
  • Working directly with the development committee and board of directors to identify and cultivate new relationships with the intent of fund development and relationship building.
  • Track and monitor donor histories; conduct donor research; ensure appropriate outreach is designed and implemented; follow up with all prospective donors (personal visits, phone calls, letters) who have made or expressed interest in making a planned gift or open a fund; ensure all donors are recognized for their contributions (correspondence, recognition events, invitations to special events).
  • Grow the funds under the management of the Foundation.
  • Assist in fulfilling event requirements (i.e., obtaining sponsorships, hosts, filling tables, building attendance) and attending as needed.
  • Work occasional events held during evenings and weekends, including tabling, presenting, and participating in community events.
  • Contribute to overseeing the CRM and ensure that proper documentation and use are occurring.
  • Contribute to overseeing the donor acknowledgment process to ensure timely receipt, formation of new donor packets, facilitating first contact, and ensuring proper process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Self-starter that is passionate about the Faith, and is eager to be successful
  • High interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and the ability to work part of a team.
  • Strong networking skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, computer, documentation, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of planned giving techniques and vehicles.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, manage time effectively, and make sound decisions in a deadline-driven, detail-oriented environment.
  • Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Demonstrated experience in a position that required exceptional written, speaking, and listening skills.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience/training; advanced degree preferred
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in major donor and gift solicitation.
  • Must be able to effectively and accurately make known the Catholic Church’s teachings through the varied ministry activities expected of this position.
  • Must be a personal witness to the Catholic faith and religion by living both one’s professional and personal life in accordance with the doctrines and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, as embodied in the various documents of the Roman Catholic Church, including, without limitation, the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church.
