Storyteller

To support the Diocese of Phoenix in its mission to Encounter the Living Christ, the Storyteller is a strategic creative communicator who articulates stories of our Catholic faith in a fresh, contemporary manner across print, digital and social media. This individual is bilingual in English and Spanish, a creative thinker adept at producing content to drive engagement and build community, and posseses an understanding, sensitivity and appreciation of the multicultural makeup of local Catholics. The Storyteller helps advance the mission of the Church by promoting authentic discipleship and evangelization throughout the Diocese of Phoenix.

The Storyteller is a new position for the Diocese of Phoenix. We are looking for someone who can craft authentic, engaging stories that speak to the mission of the Catholic Church and the values of our faith. The right candidate will bring fresh ideas, a new perspective, and a love for sharing the Good News through Catholic media.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage the editorial process and develop content for the new print magazine we are launching this fall, in collaboration with Faith Catholic.

  • Assist in development of short video productions, including planning, scripting and post-production.

  • Develop and manage stories of faith that will influence and engage Catholics in the mission of our Diocese, in collaboration with the Office of Mission Advancement.

  • Collaborate with Communications team in developing content for diocesan websites, print collateral, newsletters, blogs, social media, and correspondence.

  • Work collaboratively to ensure cohesive messaging and branding throughout all communications mediums.

  • Assist the Director of Communications with on-going initiatives, executing regular communications tasks and coordinating projects as requested.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Strong background in writing, editing, proofreading and project management with experience in developing content and storytelling.

  • Familiarity with audio/video production, and the ability to develop scripts and messaging based on overall communication goals.

  • Inquisitive and self-driven skills and able to execute projects on a timeline.

  • Have good instincts in storytelling, understand metrics and data analytics.

  • A good understanding of evolving communications trends and channels.

  • Ability to read, write and converse in Spanish.

  • Demonstrate high level of professionalism in interacting with donors, Diocese of Phoenix leadership and staff, and recipients of appeal funding.

  • Collaborative personality and work style.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to prioritize and multi-task, while driving results.

  • Must have experience in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, multimedia software, WordPress, and content management systems.

  • Deep personal commitment to Catholic values and faith.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism, English, Communications, or a related discipline and 3 plus years of communications and digital experience.

  • Active practicing Roman Catholic who is in full communion with the Church.

  • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of the Catholic faith and to serve as a committed witness to its mission.

  • Ability to exercise prudent and independent judgment and maintain efficient, confidential procedures in handling Diocesan matters.

  • Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
