Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Schools Closed

April 9, 2020

On March 30, Governor Ducey released the decision to close the Arizona public schools through the end of the school year. The decision has been made that our diocesan schools will also remain closed, a decision that has also been made for the Catholic schools of the Diocese of Tucson.

We understand that all private schools operating in Arizona are only required by federal guidelines to remain closed through April 30. However, we believe that the rapidly increasing dangers to health and safety due to the pandemic preclude any realistic possibility that we will be able to safely reopen prior to the end of the current school year. While our doors will remain shut, our schools continue to remain open via the various approaches to distance learning our schools have been successfully engaging in throughout these challenging times.

The AZ Department of Health Services now advises that the level of community spread of COVID-19 in Arizona is widespread; please be assured that we will remain vigilant in monitoring this rapidly developing situation. Our schools have been working diligently to prepare for this situation, including providing the necessary supplemental instruction to students, deep cleaning campuses, and keeping in touch with their local school communities.

We will continue to keep in contact with all of you. Please continue to pray for the end of this pandemic, and for all our Catholic school leaders as they continue to do their best in guiding their respective communities in a manner that is healthy, smart, and holy.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!

Sacred Heart of Jesus, we trust in you!
