In 2012, we are dedicating a particular diocesan focus to our young people—still years away from marriage—and their parents in the stage of our plan called “Remote Marriage Preparation.”

Although we focused on this program in 2012, we have achieved much. We formed a committee of Phoenix area chastity experts, educators, and enthusiasts. We reviewed Chastity curriculum, developed an evaluation tool, and created a topics list for teens to have covered before high school graduation. While reviewing Chastity Education in your diocese, it is important to ask ‘Where is it happening well?’ and ‘Where are the gaps?’

Our newly developed chastity program—Catholic Academy for Life Leadership (C.A.L.L.)—was created to promote Catholic teaching regarding life and love among high school teens. Since its inception, each year 250 teens attend the seminar. The curriculum may be purchased.

Specifics of our C.A.L.L. program are:

• Meeting just 4 times a year for 3 High School years, for enriching seminars. Topics covered are:
  • Theology of the Body in Year 1
  • Beauty of Biology and the Cultural Minefield in Year 2
  • Bioethics and College Preparation in Year 3
• 15 hour per year service component with credit for parental attendance at seminars.
• Retreat attendance required in Year 1 and Year 3.
• Our program website tracks teen progress, advertises seminars and volunteer activities as well as provides resources for teens, parents, and teachers (www.catholicacademyforlifeleadership.org).
• Program costs $75 per year for each teen plus retreat costs.
• A certificate is provided upon completion of the leadership program which is a benefit to students as they complete college admissions and scholarship applications.
