Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Many of us are very concerned for our family, friends and those around the world impacted by the Coronavirus. This concern is normal and praiseworthy; we are Catholics, disciples of Jesus, called to love one another!

As your shepherd and spiritual father, I encourage to join me in praying for those who have been directly impacted by the virus, as well as their families, healthcare professionals and all who are caring for the sick.

Each of us can do our part to help protect our community by taking steps to prevent the spread of this illness. We have a responsibility to our brothers and sisters to do our best by practicing healthy habits and using common sense as we go about our daily lives.

I have provided liturgical and pastoral directives to assist in implementing these precautions. Please support your pastor in this common endeavor; and practice simple things such as the following:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently.
  • Greet one another, not with a handshake but with a smile.
  • If you are not feeling well or are at high risk due to age or chronic health conditions, please stay home and watch the Mass on AZTV Channel 7, or on YouTube and Facebook. In these circumstances, you are dispensed from the Sunday Mass obligation.

Know, too, that the Diocese of Phoenix has provided a website where you can find the most updated information at dphx.org/stayhealthy.

This website will keep you informed of important developments and equip you with critical information to Be Healthy, Be Smart and Be Holy.

Let me leave with you with words of St. John Paul II: “Remember that you are never alone, Christ is with you on your journey everyday of your lives.”

Please continue to pray for one another, and I will be praying for you.

Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the Diocese of Phoenix, pray for us.

Jesus, our Divine Physician, we trust in You!

May God bless you, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
