Died November 21, 2014 at the age of 98.
Fr. Walsh was ordained to the priesthood on June 13, 1942 for the Archdiocese of San Francisco. He was incardinated to the Diocese of Tucson in 1962 and served at St. Cyril in Tucson and Sacred Heart parish in Nogales; St. Thomas the Apostle, Phoenix and St. Maria Goretti parish in Scottsdale. He was a counselor at Catholic Social Services and the Franciscan Renewal Center. He also served the Newman Center at ASU as the Director from 1963 to 1969. In retirement Fr. Walsh continued to serve God’s people especially at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Scottsdale where he resided.
He will be missed by many for his dedication and sense of humor, especially his self wit. In 2005 Fr. Wash was quoted in the Arizona Republic as saying “I read the Bible every day, but tell people I don’t need to because I’m so old I was there for most of it.” Fr. Walsh was a priest who wanted to be available for his people. He served the people with a sense of humor and love.
Services were held November 24, 2014, at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Scottsdale. Fr. Walsh is buried at Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
