March 24, 2020
On the Feast of Saint Joseph, March 19, 2020, Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted in a spirit of reconciliation, mercy and healing has extended permission for St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center to begin reserving the Most Blessed Sacrament in the tabernacle in their chapel. He also extends the permission for Mass to be celebrated in the chapel, according to the current liturgical restrictions, in order that it may be live-streamed to patient rooms and be watched by staff, nurses and doctors.
This is an extraordinary moment in our country and world, a time when we are coming together to stop the spread of the coronavirus and care for those who are suffering. It is fitting that Jesus in the Holy Eucharist would be a source of healing, blessing, love and encouragement for all who go to St. Joseph’s Hospital. The Diocese of Phoenix rejoices and gives thanks for the collaborative mission committee that brings together representatives from St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, CommonSpirit Health, Creighton University, and the Diocese of Phoenix in an ongoing effort to further initiatives in our shared missions.
Through the intercession of Saint Joseph, we pray that all medical professionals be protected as they bring Christ’s healing love to their patients. May the True Presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist be adored in all the tabernacles of the world.
Saint Joseph, protector of the Holy Family, pray for us!
