What Is Simbang Gabi?

Simbang Gabi is a cherished Filipino Catholic Christmas tradition consisting of a nine-day series of dawn Masses leading up to Christmas. It is one of the most vibrant and beloved expressions of Filipino faith and culture.

Origins

Started in the 1600s, during Spanish colonization.

Farmers requested early morning Masses so they could attend before working in the fields.

Over the centuries, the dawn schedule became a beloved annual practice.
