From the initial formation of the seminary, it was a goal to include a seminary council of faithful members of the diocese who have interest in the success of the seminary. While they’re not a governing board, they meet with the seminary staff every fall to review the year’s seminary pastoral plans for the good of the seminarians. More importantly, they meet each spring to have a visit with the seminarians and receive feedback from them which they can share with the staff. In light of the recent rounds of church scandals which certainly had roots in seminary life, it was thought important to ensure that certain faithful people, who were strong enough to name any unhealthy behaviors to have an opportunity to see the work of the seminary on a regular basis. The population of the Council would be reassessed every 5 years.
