The Season of Advent is a time to prepare our hearts for Christmas

What is Advent? Simply put, it’s the start of the Church’s liturgical year. In 2022, the Season of Advent begins on Sunday, November 27, and ends on Saturday, December 24.

The Advent season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ’s second coming at the end of time and also to the anniversary of the Lord’s birth on Christmas. Like in Lent, the liturgical color for Advent is purple. Both seasons include an element of penance as we prepare, quiet, and discipline our hearts for the upcoming great feasts. The final days of Advent focus particularly on our preparation for the celebrations of the Nativity of our Lord (Christmas).
