Fr. John Nahrgang

Fr. John Nahrgang is Vicar for Evangelization and Education in the Diocese of Phoenix.

Fr. John Nahrgang was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Phoenix on June 16, 2018, and has served as parochial vicar of Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral. Most recently, he was studying at the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family in Washington, D.C. 

A convert to Catholicism, Fr. Nahrgang received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Notre Dame in 2003 before joining the Diocese of Phoenix in 2013. He received a Bachelor of Sacred Theology from the Pontificia Universita Lateranese and a Master of Divinity from the Pontifical College Josephinum prior to his ordination to the sacred priesthood in 2018.

In 2021, Fr. Nahrgang was appointed by Bishop Olmsted as the new Vicar for Evangelization and Education for the Diocese of Phoenix. The Vicar for Evangelization and Education provides counsel, advice and assistance to the bishop in the Church’s mission of evangelization. The Division of Evangelization includes the Catholic Schools Office, Marriage and Respect Life, and Kino Catechetical Institute. He is fluent in Spanish and proficient in Brazilian Portuguese.

Fr. Nahrgang succeeds Fr. John Parks, the diocese’s first Vicar for Evangelization, who is now pastor of St. Theresa Parish in Phoenix.
