Agua Viva is a two-year faith formation program offered at the parish level. Agua Viva is sponsored by the Kino Catechetical Institute. It is open to all adults who want to know their faith better and who wish to become active participants in their parish.
Agua Viva:
- Provides a solid foundational framework in the faith.
- Nurtures biblical, liturgical, and ecclesial spirituality.
- Develops an intentional community of disciples.
- Facilitates and promotes community building.
- Provides a place of welcome and cultural integration.
- Provides parishes with an informed and committed laity to assist in ministerial service to the parish.
Program Objectives:
- Facilitate a personal encounter with Jesus Christ in the life of His Church.
- Awaken people to active discipleship.
- Equip participants to participate appropriately in parish ministry.
- Foster growth in a parish community.
- Provide a viable environment for the integration of faith and culture.
Six formation components are offered during the 2-year process, 2 hours per week:
- Introduction to the Old Testament
- Introduction to the New Testament
- Spiritual Foundations of the Church
- Introduction to Liturgy and the Sacraments
- Introduction to Moral Theology
- Catholic Social Teaching

How long is the program, and when do classes meet?
Agua Viva is a 2-year parish program, and classes meet once a week in the evening for 2 hours.
Are classes offered during the summer?
Classes meet only during the fall, winter, and spring.
Does Agua Viva offer any type of certification?
At the parish’s discretion, the parish may offer a Certificate of Attendance. The Kino Catechetical Institute does not offer any type of diocesan certification for Agua Viva. We encourage AV participants to join our Adult Faith Formation / Parish Leadership Program at Kino to continue their formation.
