• Fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport (PHX). From there, one may rent a car or call a taxi or ride sharing service such as Uber or Lyft. You should expect to pay about $60-80 for a one-way ride with Uber or Lyft, depending on the traffic. We can provide you with the direct contact information of a local Lyft driver (Lyft app not needed) who charges a very reasonable flat rate between Sky Harbor Airport and Black Canyon City. This will be especially helpful for the return trip, as Uber and Lyft are not readily available in Black Canyon City due to our remote location.

    • Take I-17 North from Phoenix.
    • Take exit 242 (Black Canyon City/Rock Springs).
    • Turn right to get on the Frontage Road, which curves around to go north.
    • Drive to the first right, which is St. Joseph Rd., marked by a tall transformer and a large “Black Canyon Campground” sign with an image of a Roadrunner.
    • As you pass the campground, at the very bottom of the hill, you will find a keypad mounted on a white pole on the left side of the road. This keypad opens the white entrance gate that is farther up the hill. Enter the code followed by the “SEND” button. The gate will open towards you. Continue straight to go up the steep hill (use your vehicle’s lowest gear).
    • As you approach the top of the hill, you will come to a fork in the road. Turn left to go to your assigned hermitage or the Mother of Mercy Chapel. If you have an appointment at the Main House, instead of turning left go straight until you reach the very top of the hill.
