Since the Supreme Court reinstated the constitutionality of capital punishment (or the death penalty) in 1976, more than 1200 people have been executed by the state. According to groups like The Freedom Project, there is evidence that hundreds of people who have been executed, or who await execution, have been wrongly convicted of capital offenses and are actually innocent.
Abortion
Abortion has been one of the most divisive issues in America since states were forbidden to outlaw abortion after the 1973 Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision. Since that time, over 50 million abortions have been performed in the United States with an average of 3400 abortions being performed each day.
Bishop Emeritus Thomas J. Olmsted
The Most Reverend Thomas J. Olmsted was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Lincoln, Neb., July 2, 1973. He was installed as the fourth Bishop of the Diocese of Phoenix December 20, 2003.
Auxiliary Bishop Eduardo A. Nevares
The Most Reverend Eduardo Alanis Nevares was ordained as the first Auxiliary Bishop for the Diocese of Phoenix on July 19, 2010, at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Avondale. He began his priesthood as a Missionary of Our Lady of La Salette on July 18, 1981, and was later incardinated into the Diocese of Tyler, Texas, in May 2007.
Most Rev. Bishop John P. Dolan
Bishop John Dolan, known for his pastoral heart and desire to embody Pope Francis’ call to be a shepherd with the “smell of the sheep,” was installed as the fifth bishop of the Diocese of Phoenix on August 2, 2022.
