We’re here to help you figure out the timeline of your marriage prep requirements and the necessary order of steps so you can have a meaningful and peaceful time of preparation.

To plan your marriage prep timeline, we’ll need to back up 9 months from your wedding month to know the sequence and latest dates you can take courses in each step. Please select your month below and then register for all courses in the correct order and put everything on your wedding planning calendar!

January

We are getting married in January

April: By the end of April (or before …)
Together you will need to meet with your Pastor or his delegate, so that your parish can start your Nuptial File. In addition, you will need to complete your FOCCUS or another Couple Discussion Inventory.

June: By the end of June (or before…)
Together you need to attend a Married Life-Skills Course consisting of either a weekend course or 5-6 meetings in a parish course. Examples of approved courses are: “Love for Life”, Engaged Encounter, “Transformed in Love”, “Witness to Love” and Unitas.

August: By the end of August (or before…)
Together you attend God’s Plan for a Joy-Filled Marriage day retreat and prepare to start your NFP course.


February

We are getting married in February

May: By the end of May (or before …)
Together you will need to meet with your Pastor or his delegate, so that your parish can start your Nuptial File. In addition, you will need to complete your FOCCUS or another Couple Discussion Inventory.

July: By the end of July (or before…)
Together you need to attend a Married Life-Skills Course consisting of either a weekend course or 5-6 meetings in a parish course. Examples of approved courses are: “Love for Life”, Engaged Encounter, “Transformed in Love”, “Witness to Love” and Unitas.

September: By the end of September (or before…)
Together you attend God’s Plan for a Joy-Filled Marriage day retreat and prepare to start your NFP course.

October: By the end of October (or before…)
Together you begin the full Natural Family Planning (NFP) course. This course consists of 4 to 6 sessions that take 10 to 12 weeks to complete.
*Start your NFP course after you attend God’s Plan for Joy-filled Marriage.

December: By the end of December (or before…)
If you are baptized Catholic, set aside time to receive the Sacrament of Confession.
Also, arrange a final meeting with your Pastor or his delegate to turn in all your certificates. Then give yourselves a hearty round of applause!
